The idea is based around WWII because of the feeling of “blending in” that the posters made you feel like you had to do, to “camouflage” yourself from spies within the United States and the Soviet Union. Citizen’s were told “Silence is safe” and that the enemy was always spying on them This blacklist and Red Fear all originated out of this idea of “just keep quiet”.
